Evacuation diagrams for Canberra, ACT and surrounding NSW

Sometimes called an evacuation map, fire evacuation diagram or “You Are Here” map, a compliant evacuation diagram must show the information people need to leave safely and must be developed for the actual building and emergency arrangements. Under AS 3745-2010, diagrams must be displayed in visible locations, oriented to the viewer’s position, and include the required elements: your location, exit routes, paths of travel, assembly areas, fire equipment and a validity date.

Evacuation diagrams help people understand the nearest exits and paths of travel before they ever need them. In an emergency, they provide a clear, simple diagram of egress from where the reader is standing, showing the quickest way to exit the building and reach the assembly area.

Under AS 3745-2010, evacuation diagrams must be displayed in visible locations, oriented correctly to the viewer’s position, and include the required information such as the “You Are Here” location, designated exit routes, paths of travel, assembly areas, fire equipment, emergency call points, and a validity date.

What is included

How we develop your diagrams

We do more than place symbols on a floor plan. We assess the site, confirm the layout, identify exits and equipment, and make sure the finished diagrams reflect the way people will actually need to move through the building in an emergency.

Our diagrams are spatially accurate, aligned with the building’s structure, and designed to meet AS 3745-2010 requirements.

Who it’s for

Who needs evacuation diagrams?

Under AS 3745-2010, a facility is any building, structure or workplace that is, or may be, occupied by people. That includes sites without permanent occupants, such as unmanned warehouses, storage facilities, or plant rooms accessed by maintenance workers or contractors.

If people can access your site, you need evacuation diagrams.

Validity and republishing

Evacuation diagrams are valid for up to 5 years under AS 3745-2010, or until your layout, exits or equipment locations change, whichever comes first.

We track your diagram validity dates and contact you as your diagrams approach expiry with current republishing rates. If your site has not changed, republishing is straightforward: we update the validity date, reprint and reinstall. If things have changed, we will scope the updates and provide an estimate.

You do not need to remember when your diagrams expire. We do.

Common questions

Evacuation diagram FAQs

What must an evacuation diagram show?

At minimum: the “You Are Here” position, designated exits and paths of travel, assembly areas, fire-fighting equipment locations, emergency call points and a validity date, all oriented to how the viewer is facing.

Where should evacuation diagrams be displayed?

In predictable, visible locations along paths of travel, at the correct mounting height, oriented so the diagram matches what the reader sees in front of them. We install to AS 3745-2010 requirements.

Is an evacuation map the same as an evacuation diagram?

People use both names. The difference is compliance: a generic map shows the floor plan, a compliant evacuation diagram shows the required emergency elements, correctly oriented, with a validity date, developed for your actual emergency arrangements.

How often should diagrams be reviewed or replaced?

At least every 5 years under AS 3745-2010, or sooner if your layout, exits or equipment locations change. We track your validity dates and contact you before they lapse.

Does ACTWELL print and install the diagrams?

Yes. Diagrams are printed on durable material, framed and installed at the correct height and orientation, with digital copies and compliance documentation supplied for your records.
