Course Description

HLTAID006 Provide Advanced First Aid
(Includes HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Supportand HLTAID003 Provide First Aid)

This course deals with the skills and knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response, including bag valve mask resuscitation techniques, spinal management, and management of the incident and other first aiders until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

The unit applies to workers who may be required to provide, coordinate and manage a first aid response across a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings.

There is a practical assessment (as per the unit of competency guidelines) of two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR performed on the floor, as well as a 50-question multiple choice assessment and
short answer assessment. If you are physically incapable of performing CPR on the floor, please contact our staff for further information.

The CPR (HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) component of this course is valid for 12 months and the HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support, HLTAID003 Provide First Aid and HLTAID006 Provide Advanced First Aid qualification expires after three (3) years

HLTAID007 Provide Advanced Resuscitation
(Includes HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to use specialised equipment in the provision of resuscitation in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, including oxygen and Oropharyngeal airways.

This unit applies to workers who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in a range of complex situations, include community and workplace settings.

It is recommended to renew this course every 12 months as per industry standards.

This combined course runs for approximately 12 hours.

Course Delivery

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at ACTWell First Aid & Training Canberra’s training facility.

Course Duration (face to face)

  • Blended delivery  12 hours with the addition of up to 2 hour self-paced learning

This course is delivered and assessed by ACTWell First Aid & Training in partnership and under the auspice of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909.

No work placement will be required as part of this course.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

Entry Requirements

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.
