Course Description
This is a new unit of competency that satisfies the requirements for childcare workers and early childhood teachers (including asthma/anaphylaxis requirements). It replaces the need for these individuals to obtain three (3) separate qualifications with one (1). The Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) recommend this as an approved course for people working with children.

This is a combined skill set course designed for child care workers and early childhood teachers.
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response in an educational or a care setting. It covers basic life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. It also provides advance training in the management and treatments associated with anaphylaxis and the use of auto injectors, asthma and childhood diseases.
There is a practical assessment (as per the unit of competency guidelines) of two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR performed on the floor, as well as a 50-question multiple choice assessment and short answer assessment. If you are physically incapable of performing CPR on the floor, please contact our staff for further information.
The CPR (HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) component of this course is valid for 12 months and the HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support, HLTAID003 Provide First Aid and HLTAID004 Provide an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting qualification expires after three (3) years
This course runs approximately 7 hours face to face with a pre-course online requirement to be completed prior to the face-to-face component.

COURSE DELIVERY
This course will be delivered in the workplace or at ACTWell First Aid & Training Canberra’s training facility.
COURSE DURATION (face to face)
• Blended delivery – 6 hours (minimum) with the addition of 2 hours self-paced learning
