Course Description

This unit of competency satisfies the requirements for childcare workers and early childhood teachers (including asthma/anaphylaxis requirements). It replaces the need for these individuals to obtain three (3) separate qualifications with one (1). The Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) recommend this as an approved course for people working with children.

This is a combined skill set course designed for child care workers and early childhood teachers.

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response in an educational or a care setting. It covers basic life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. It also provides advance training in the management and treatments associated with anaphylaxis and the use of auto injectors, asthma and childhood diseases.

There is a practical assessment (as per the unit of competency guidelines) of two (2) minutes of uninterrupted CPR performed on the floor. If you are physically incapable of performing CPR on the floor, please contact our staff for further information.

The CPR (HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) component of this course is valid for 12 months and the HLTAID002 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support, HLTAID003 Provide First Aid, and HLTAID004 Privde an Emergency First Aid Response in an Education and Care Setting qualifications expire after three (3) years

DUE TO COVID-19 we are currently delivering training via an 'enhanced online learning' delivery method with a shortened face-to-face assessment. This course runs approximately 2 hours face-to-face with a pre-course online requirement to be completed prior to the face-to-face component.

Payment Terms – Payment for individual participants is upfront, group booking payment terms are based on agreement between the client and service provider.

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor. 

Please note: The Online delivery with face to face Practical assessment delivery mode includes video assessment questions. Occasionally the student will be required to make a video of themselves, either verbally explaining or demonstrating the required assessment outcome. If you do not wish to complete video assessment questions, please consider an alternative mode of delivery (for e.g. a blended or full face to face course).

Performance tasks and Practical scenarios:

  • Perform CPR on an infant
  • Perform CPR on a child 
  • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED)
  • Breathing difficulties – Asthma
  • Anaphylaxis (allergic reaction)
  • Choking with airway obstruction
  • Head injury/ Unconscious breathing casualty
  • Bleeding and shock
  • Snake or funnel-web spider bite
  • Sprains and fractures
  • Seizures and epilepsy, including febrile convulsions
  • Poisoning and toxic substances

Documentation - The student must complete the following to the appropriate standard:

  • Incident report forms

Online / Theory assessment 

Pre-course study:   Students will be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.

Online study:  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

The student must complete all assessment videos, modules and questions. 

CERTIFICATE RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS

HLTAID004 certificates will require renewal after 36 months (HLTAID001 12-months)
