Low voltage rescue and First Aid | Canberra, ACT
Overview
Low voltage rescue and full first aid in one day: this course combines the LVR course (UETDRMP018) with the complete HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate, for electrical workers who need both.
For annual renewal with CPR only, see our LVR and CPR course.
This course combines two units: HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid and UETDRMP018 – Perform rescue from a live low voltage panel. It’s built for people who work in environments where electrical hazards are part of the job.
You’ll learn how to safely rescue someone from a live low voltage panel in combination with first aid and CPR.
ACTWELL’s trainers deliver this course the way it needs to be delivered: practical, scenario-based, and grounded in the realities of working around live electrical equipment.
What is included
On successful completion, you will receive the following nationally recognised qualifications:
- UETDRMP018Perform Rescue from a Live Low Voltage Panel
- HLTAID009Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
- HLTAID010Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
- HLTAID011Provide First Aid
HLTAID009 is a pre-requisite for UETDRMP018 and is delivered concurrently as part of this course.
Who this course is for
- Electrical workers and electricians
- Electricity supply industry (ESI) workers
- Tradespeople and technicians required to work near live LV panels
- Workers required to meet WHS/OHS, mobility or mutual aid requirements involving LV rescue
Participants must be authorised by their workplace to perform LV panel rescue tasks. This course does not cover rescue from overhead lines or underground cables.
What you will learn
LV Panel Rescue (UETDRMP018):
How to:
- Confirm your workplace requirements for LV panel rescue before an incident occurs
- Locate isolation points, confirm voltage levels, and know what you are dealing with before you approach
- Select, inspect and use the right LV rescue equipment and PPE for the situation
- Know and apply safe approach distances for live LV apparatus
- Assess the emergency, activate a rescue response, and act decisively
- Safely remove a casualty from a live LV panel, following your workplace procedures under pressure
- Assess a casualty following rescue
- Secure the incident site after the rescue so it is safe for everyone else
- Complete the required incident reporting, both workplace and regulatory
How electrical injury affects the body:
- Understand how electrical current disrupts the heart’s electrical system, including the risk of ventricular fibrillation and cardiac arrest
- Recognise the effects of electrical injury including burns at entry and exit points, involuntary muscle contraction, and respiratory arrest
- Understand why defibrillation and CPR are the immediate priorities following an electrical rescue
First Aid (HLTAID011):
- How to assess the situation and call for help
- Provide CPR to adults, children and infants, including use of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Respond to breathing and unconscious casualties
- Manage a wide range of injuries and emergencies, including:
- Anaphylaxis
- Asthma
- Bleeding, minor and major
- Choking
- Fractures, sprains, and dislocations
- Envenomation, including bites and stings
- Burns
- Shock
- Nosebleeds
- Diabetes, seizures, stroke, heart attacks and more
- Use personal protective equipment correctly
- Communicate clearly with emergency services
- Complete a verbal and written report after an incident
How you will be assessed
CPR assessment:
- Perform CPR on an adult manikin (on the floor) and infant manikin (on a firm surface) for 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR (5 full cycles)
- Use an AED and place a casualty into the recovery position
LV Panel Rescue assessment:
- Identify organisational and workplace requirements for LV panel rescue
- Identify hazards, assess risks and apply appropriate control measures
- Locate and confirm the correct electricity isolation point
- Confirm relevant voltage levels and apply safe approach distances
- Select, obtain and inspect LV rescue equipment
- Correctly fit and use required rescue PPE
- Safely perform a rescue from a live LV panel in accordance with workplace procedures
Course details
Certification validity:
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid: valid for 3 years
- UETDRMP018 low voltage rescue: renew every 12 months
- CPR (delivered within the first aid unit): refresh every 12 months
Why LVR and CPR are renewed every 12 months
Under work health and safety regulations in the ACT and NSW, work on energised electrical equipment generally requires a safety observer who has been assessed in the previous 12 months as competent to rescue and resuscitate.
Your exact renewal obligations depend on your employer’s procedures, your licence conditions and any network operator authorisation you hold. Check what your workplace requires before setting renewal dates, or ask us and we will help you work it out.
Delivery format:
- Blended learning (online theory + face-to-face practical)
- OR full face-to-face (available on request)
This course is delivered and assessed by ACTWELL First Aid & Training on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909. Information about student rights, responsibilities, and complaints processes is available in the Allens Training Student Handbook.
