Handle sharps and infectious waste safely, every time

11124NAT – Course in Safe Handling of Sharps and Infectious Waste and NAT11124001 – Remove Sharps and Infectious Waste Safely | Canberra, ACT

Overview

Sharps training for teams whose work brings them near needles, syringes and contaminated waste. Incorrect handling remains one of the most preventable causes of workplace needlestick injuries and bloodborne pathogen exposure. This nationally recognised course, 11124NAT, gives your team the practical skills to handle, remove and dispose of sharps and infectious waste safely.

Needle-stick injuries and blood-borne pathogen exposure are among the most preventable workplace incidents in Australia. They still happen. Usually because procedures were not followed, not understood, or never properly taught.

Your team will learn how to handle, remove and dispose of sharps and infectious waste safely. We work through the real procedures and decisions people face on the job, not abstract theory.

The course is built around the real procedures and decision points workers face on the job, not abstract theory.

Renewal cycle

When should I renew?

This is an example renewal cycle starting from your most recent Provide First Aid course. Your specific dates will depend on when you completed each qualification. Check your certificate for your actual renewal dates.
  • INITIAL

    HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

You complete your Provide First Aid course. This includes HLTAID009 (CPR) and HLTAID010 (Basic Emergency Life Support) — so all three qualifications are current from this single course.

  • YEAR 1

    HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Your CPR qualification is recommended for annual refresh. Since your First Aid (HLTAID011) is still current at this point in the example, you only need to book the shorter CPR course this year.

  • YEAR 2

    HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

Year two — another CPR refresh. Your First Aid is still valid for one more year, so CPR-only is all you need again.

  • YEAR 3

    Thinking of booking early?

In this example, your First Aid renewal is just two months away. If you book CPR now as a standalone, your first aid will lapse in a matter of weeks. We recommend booking the full HLTAID011 instead — it includes CPR, so you’ll update both qualifications in one session and avoid a renewal blunder.
